Sri Haridasa Sangha conducted the 'Purandara Dasa Aradhana Mahotsav' on January 26, with about 1,000 amateur artistes singing the 'Keerthanas' of Sri Purandara Dasa.
This is for the first time the Sangha, which has been organising musical programmes in various parts of Bangalore every year, has organised such an event at Banaswadi. About 500 people attended the function held at Government Higher Primary School premises near Sri Makuntamma Temple.
Besides the 'Keerthanas', there was a 'Dollu Kunita' dance performance by tiny tots, which was a visual delight. Dignitaries like Kodanda Reddy, Dr. Raju Reddy, Narayana Reddy, Gurumurthy Reddy and Channabyraiah, among others, presided over the function. Acclaimed Bharatnatyam dancer Ramesh and Vocalist Veena Gopalakrishna, who were present, were honored by the Sangha.
"The response from the people has been amazing. All of them were enjoying to the core," said Ha Ra Nagarajacharya, 2010 Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee and founder president of Sri Haridasa Sangha.
The extravaganza started at 3:30 pm and ended at sharp 5:30 pm.
