Delhi Haat, Pitampura was full of vibrant energy from February 1 to 3 as 12 teams of various colleges of Delhi University performed enthralling street plays conveying social messages.
Social issues like child abuse, superstition, etc were highlighted at this cultural fest 'Udaan 2012' organised by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC). Cityplus was the media partner for the event. Students impressed everyone in this three-day event 'Udaan-The Film and Performing Art Theatre Festival' which was the brain child of Manchtantra, the dramatics society of SGGSCC.
On the first day, 'People- the street play event' and 'Souls-the choreography event' rocked the stage. Various social messages were also conveyed through silent dance. All the performances were appreciated by the audience. Dr Satish Kumar of National School of Dramatics; Ramandeep Singh, an old alumni of Delhi University's 'Theatre Circuit and Street Play' and Amit Garg, an old alumni of Manchtantra were judges.
A photography event 'Click' was also organised in which 35 photographers from different colleges took part submitting five photographs each based on the theme 'Moments of Fest'. Apart from this, Pushkar Batra and Mehak Mighlani, official photographers of the event, displayed their 15 photographs each in an exhibition organised at the event.
Aniket Jaiswal, director, Manchtantra said, "In order to give right direction to the creative energy of students, this society was created. This time, we have come up with our official video 'Udaan', which was directed and compiled by Vinay Jaiswal and sung by Faridkot." 'Razzmatazz', an event set the stage on fire. With lots of colours and eye-catching costumes, eight teams of Delhi University performed on various Punjabi, Indian and South Indian tracks. This event made the audience dance as well. The fest ended with an award ceremony and a band performance given by Hansraj College.
Blast from the past
A Manchtree was placed in the fest which showcased the four-year-old history of Manchtantra. It had pictures, banners, sweat shirts, etc.
