A free eye check-up camp was organised for the residents of Karisandra and neighbouring ward residents by Lakshmikantha, BJP general secretary of Bangalore City, in association with Shakuntala Patil Eye Hospital at AK Colony, Anganwadi Kendra of 7th Block Jayanagar, in commemoration of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 87th birthday on December 25.
The camp was inaugurated by R Ashoka, Home Minister of Karnataka. Dr. Patil from Shakuntala Eye Hospital screened 175 patients, out of which 75 patients were given free spectacles by Ashoka and 25 were referred for eye surgery. Speaking on the occasion, Ashoka outlined the life history of AB Vajpayee and said: "The eye camp is a better gift as part of our mentor AB Vajpayee's birthday."
Tea and snacks were served on the occasion and fruits were distributed to all members who participated. Speaking to Cityplus, Lakshmikantha expressed his happiness about the camp and said: "The camp is for the welfare of the under-privileged section of society and it's a good thing on AB Vajpayee's birthday. A few eye-related treatment like laser treatment, lens and spectacles were given free of cost to those who couldn't afford to pay for it."
The residents felt happy when the patients, mostly senior citizens, were given free spectacles and eye treatment on the occasion.
