600 undergo health check-up

A free health camp was jointly organised by the Shakambari Nagar Residents' Welfare Association and Sagar Hospital at Gokul School, Pipeline Road, Shakamabari Nagar, on December 25. The camp was inaugurated by MLA Vijaykumar and presided over by Corporator B Somashekar (Ward 179). The camp was held in commemoration of AB Vajpayee's birthday celebration. Also present were Corporator SK Nataraj and BJP City president Subbanna.
Doctor Raju and Shridhar from Sagar Hospital screened nearly 600 people, out of whom most of them were senior citizens. Residents were given free blood check-up, diabetes check-up, ECG, heart check-up, orthopaedic and even diet charts by the dietitian. Free medicines were distributed among ailing persons. A total of 150 woollen rugs were also distributed among senior citizens and 25 iron boxes to unemployed residents. Corporator Somashekar also gave away cheques for below poverty line patients undergoing treatment at Sagar Hospital.
On the same occasion, health insurance cards were distributed among the slum dwellers at Rajarajeshwari and senior citizens cards were given to 150 residents.
Shakambari Nagar ward members were winners of the cricket match conducted on AB Vajpayee's birthday celebration. Speaking on the occasion, Somashekar said: "Health is very important and I am happy everyone has utilised the facility. I am thankful to all doctors and volunteers."
