Several children above the age of ten learnt the art of graffiti at the Graffiti workshop which concluded recently in the city. Held on weekends from December 4 to the end of January at Treasure House, the six-week long workshop was conducted by a local graffiti artist, Edwin Emanuel.
Graffiti enables the artist to use words, calligraphy and cartoons together creatively for free expression of thoughts and ideas. "This fun filled creative art gives a 3D affect, making it aesthetic as well as impactful - even more than any other art form," opined Edwin.
This is the second workshop on graffiti conducted by the artist. Six children participated in it and most of them found the workshop to be very liberating - "Even though the teachers make us learn art in school, we have to work within certain specifications. Here we have the opportunity to let go and just paint," said Rohan, a 12 year old.
Edwin divided the workshop into six sessions of three hours each. Teaching was carried on in different stages. Drawing characters in different styles and painting them towards giving them a 3D effect on paper took almost four classes. The children then learnt to use 'spray cans' and practiced spraying on walls, in the later classes.
