DMS celebrates 23rd anniversary

The Domlur Mahila Samaja (DMS) celebrated its 23rd anniversary at Domlur Club on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. The function started with a prayer by Radha and Manjula. It was followed by the State Anthem.
Rani Satish, former Minister for Kannada Culture and Social Welfare Development, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the function lighting the lamp and the Samaja president Vasantha Thyagaraj welcomed the gathering.
Secretary Radha Sreeram presented the annual report, which listed the various activities of the Samaja. According to the report, the association organised yoga classes, cooking demos, sports and other cultural activities during the year. It made financial donations to Ramanashree Blind School in Jayanagar and also conducted many awareness programmes for women and children.
The chief guest gave away prizes to the winners of previously held sports competitions. Later, addressing the gathering, she urged women to play an important role in political, cultural, social and welfare activities. "Women must use the familial and social respect given to them in building a strong and responsible society while upholding our culture and Kannada language," she said.
Prabha Hegde, vice president, thanked the event sponsors -- Councillor Gopala Reddy, Venkatappa, Ramakrishna Reddy and Lakshmamma. She also thanked the Domlur Club Committee and staff for allowing the association to use their premises. The function concluded with cultural programmes.
