Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune kicked off their flagship event Fest-O-Comm on 3rd February, 2012 at the Lavale campus. The chief guest for the event was renowned director, script writer and producer of the film industry Madhur Bhandarkar.
While addressing the students, Madhur spoke about the theme of the festival - "AB BOL" saying that "FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION now-a-days is about Facebook, Twitter and the comments you make on them." He emphasised on the power of conviction in one's life and concluded by saying, "Be with your conviction and stick to what you want to do." To support his above statement, he cited examples of his movies like Chandani Bar and Fashion, which are the kind of movies he always wanted to make.
Being a media and communication institute, the festival had a number of interesting events lined up. The fest saw contests like Shutter Speed, an in-depth task pattern interspersed with photography skills and adventure. The other interesting event was Jhalak, a trailer making competition for all the FCP whiz-kids.
And also strategic events like Case Study Competition contributed in making the event a hit amongst B Schools students as well. Paintball, Spray Painting, Questing Couch and Mad Ads were other events that got an overwhelming response.
The third day of the event witnessed superb performances at 'SIMCurtains', the flagship theatre extravaganza of SIMC. The winner of the competition was MICA, who amongst the others came down especially to be a part of the three-day festival.
