A free tailoring unit is being run where women are taught stitching and embroidery by the volunteers of Dhyan Yog Society in Koramangala. The three-month course enables women to set up units at home or seek employment elsewhere. They also help them to get jobs.
"The focus is on women's empowerment. Empowering a woman is more than just that," says volunteer Anjana. "The ramifications are far wider. Empowering women leads not only to economic progress and self-reliance but also ensures fewer school drop-outs which, in turn, ensure higher literacy. It fuels their families, communities and the world at large," she says.
Already, the initiative has garnered wonderful response and altered the lives of innumerable women and their families. It has given these women an opportunity to become self-reliant by throwing open multiple avenues of gaining employment and changing their own lives and the society forever. Besides, there are plans to start more vocational training centres.
