This weekend music lovers can head to the Central Park Amphi Theatre at Kharghar for a musical extravaganza titled 'Remember Shakti India Tour 2012'. The fusion music concert will feature stalwarts of global music, including, tabla wizard Zakir Hussain, eminent vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, Monte Carlo based jazz guitarist John McLaughlin, mandolin maestro, U. Shrinivas and Kanjira Virtuoso V. Selvaganesh.
Remember Shakti is a quintet which combines elements of traditional Indian music with elements of jazz.  The band gets its name from John McLaughlin's acoustic Indian fusion band Shakti which was active in the 1970s. 'Remember Shakti' is an extension of the original thematic programme called `Shakti'. They will cover five other cities including Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, shares, "Performing with John is like playing with an Indian Musician. John has taken the time to study Indian classical music and figure out how we work how we think and what our improvising techniques are.
I too have had the good fortune to study and understand the Western ways of musical thinking be it jazz, pop or rock. In terms of musical interaction with John, it's a bit more detailed now than before.
The fabulous thing is that the connection hasn't changed. I never feel like I'm working with someone strange from a different tradition and he doesn't feel that way either."
Tickets are priced at `1000, 500, 300 and are available at   Rhythm House, Ph: 43222727, Maharashtra Watch Company Ph: 66625661 and Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium, Vashi, Ph: 2766 7879
