In the wake of approaching civic elections, Thane district collector's office has started operating a mobile van in the rural areas of Thane to create awareness among voters about their voting rights. The van made its debut on January 11. The programme is scheduled to continue till January 17.
The move will especially benefit first-time voters. Abasaheb Jarhad, district collector of Thane, says, “The van will go to Bhiwandi, Mokhada, Talasari, Jawahar, Shahapur. Programmes will be conducted at schools, bus stops, weekly market, gram panchayat office, etc.”
“The election commission has decided ti operate mobile vans in various districts and are starting off with Thane” says Jarhad.
