The attendees at Lamakaan were glued to their seats, as they watched artists performing the play "To be or not to be", by a local theatre group,Udaan. Amidst the perfect outdoor setting and lovely weather, the play managed to simultaneously entertain and educate the audience.
The play was about an unemployed youngster whose girlfriend has left him in the lurch and he is confused about choosing between consuming poison or hanging, for ending his life.
While the protagonist is contemplating suicide, his best friend stops by at his house and he shares his emotional dilemma with him. The said friend doesn't show any visible signs of making him reconsider his wish to commit suicide as he is aware of protagonist's nature and leaves him to his fate. Thereafter, he is visited by different people for their personal reasons, knowing his intentions and not stopping him from committing suicide. Then at the last moment of his life, a stranger comes to him and changes his decision to take his own life.
The original script of this play
called "Nirop" was written by Dr. Vasanth Sabnis in Marathi which was adapted in Hindi by Amruta Patwardhan. A large audience turned up to watch the play, including renowned theatre director Bhaskar Shewalkar , and Vaishali Bisht, amongst others.
