Authorities urge residents to visit the Tree, Flower, Fruits, Vegetable Exhibition
On February 3, 4 and 5, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) are hosting the sixth Tree, Flower, Fruits, Vegetable Exhibition at the plot opposite Inorbit Mall, Vashi. The main objective of the event is to create and increase awareness among Navi Mumbaikars about planting trees. This will help in making the city pollution free. Unfortunately, they have been getting a poor response over the past few years.
Only a handful of people who participate every year have the knowledge and details of the event. Chandrakant Tayade, administrative officer of the civic garden department, adds, “ We are trying our level best to make the citizens aware about the social and educational event through banners and posters.”
To throw light on the poor publicity, the Chief Judge and Advisor of the event, V A Rode, who is also a Vashi based Veteran Horticulturist and Ex-Head of Horticulture Department of BARC informs, “We have been organising the show since quite a few years in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Thane. We charge an entry fee at Mumbai and Thane but we still witness a good crowd. However in Navi Mumbai even though we do not charge entry fee, we have seen a poor response. The reason is poor publicity. Every year I have to force the corporation to spread awareness but in vain.”
There will be more than 50 stalls selling the plants, seeds, garden implements, insecticides etc. For further information, one can call on 022 – 27570849
