Kaikondrahalli Lake on Sarjapur Main Road had a foreign visitor on February 3, which would be an inspiration for our community for years to come. It was none other than 2009 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences - Prof. Elinor Ostrom of Indiana University, USA.
On her maiden visit to Kaikondrahalli Lake, Prof. Elinor Ostrom planted a jackfruit sapling (Artocarpus hirsuta). Her research demonstrates the capacity of local communities to manage and restore natural resources across the world.
Prof. Elinor Ostrom was in the city to deliver a talk on 'Challenges for achieving conservation and development' at the TN Khoshoo Memorial Lecture in the Indian Institute of Science on Friday last.
The BBMP has erected a memorial comprising a picture of Prof. Elinor Ostrom along with a brief profile of the Nobel Laureate and her visit to Kaikondrahalli Lake adjacent to the sapling in order to commemorate the event.
