The Residents' Association for Safe Environment (RISE) of HAL- III Stage, New Tippasandra, organised a cultural-cum-competition programme on New Year-eve, which was attended by a large number of people.
The function began with a formal invocation by Kalpana Narasimhan. Founder member P K Venkatraman outlined the history and achievements of RISE and emphasised the responsibilities of the citizens towards society and environment. He said: "Younger generations have to take an active interest in the community issues to improve the living conditions of everyone."
Vaishnavi and Harsha performed a welcome dance. Coordinator NS Mani stressed the need for residents' participation in community activities. He said: "We appreciate the high-level energy and enthusiasm of children and all of you need to get involved and contribute to the larger community."
Founder members and key contributors Venkataraman, NS Mani, Vishwanathan, Harriet D'souza, Mahadev, Mary Vinayak and Shivshankar were felicitated. The children sang and danced to Bollywood numbers like 'chhamak chhallo' and 'Dinga-chika'.
Harriet D'souza distributed prizes to the children who won in drawing, painting, quiz and cultural competitions. Participation prizes were also distributed.
The function ended with a tambola game (housie). G Narasimhan paid a vote of thanks. The people gathered pledged to make 2012 a better year and take steps in non-usage of plastics, efficient garbage disposal and waste management, improvements in children's park, road safety, traffic issues, etc.
