Savitribai Phule was a super woman

To mark the hundred and eighty first birth anniversary of the great pioneer of women’s education, Savitribai Phule, the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha had organised a felicitation programme on January 3, 2012 at the barrister P.G.Patil Auditorium at K.B.P. College, Vashi.
The function began by illuminating the holy lamp and worshipping the icons of Savitribai Phule and the founder of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Padmabhushan Dr Karmavbeer Bhaurao Patil.
The Principal of the college, Dr. V.S. Shivankar, in his introductory speech, enumerated the work rendered by the great couple, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
This was followed by the felicitation programme. Dr Jayashree Magdum, professor of Mahatma Phule College, Pune, was felicitated by honoring her with the Principal Sou. Sumatibai Pandurant Patil Ideal Teacher Award sponsored by Siddashram Trust.
The chief guest Dr Veena Deo was quoted saying, “Savitribai Phule was a super woman and had a combination of tradition and modernity together. Her concepts and thoughts are still applicable in the contemporary period. Reading teaches us to think and students should read good books.”
Dr Dhanashree Sane focused on the works of Meerabai, Janabai and Bahinabai Choudhary. “These religious poets were much ahead of their time,” she opined.
The function was compered by Dr Shubhada Nayak and Prof. Rajeshree Ghorpade and was concluded with the national anthem.
