It was a wonderful cultural nite for the residents of Malleshwaram as they witnessed the solo recital of Dr Sanjay Shantaram on February 14, at Seva Sadan. With graceful moves and beautiful choreography, he was able to showcase an extravagant show.
Starting with 'Pushpanjali', he offered his respects to the gurus, musicians and the audience. Followed by this, he mesmerized the audience with the traditional 'pada varnam' - 'Swami naan undan adimai' in 'Natikuranji' raga and 'aditala', a delectable compostion of Sri Papanasham Shivan. Expressing the deep love for Lord Shiva, he enacted the examples of many devotees. The wonderful composition was well appreciated by the audience.
In the second half, Dr Sanjay chose to present an evergreen, extremely popular composition, 'Bagilanu teredu seveyanu kodo hariye'. Showcasing the composer, Dasa Shrestha Kanaka Dasa, he presented scenes and episodes of the life of the great composer. The interesting piece was set to 'Raga Mishra Hindola' and 'Khanda chapu tala'.
Delivering yet another wonderful performance, he later staged the last segment, 'Ashtapadi', soulful compostions of Jayadeva who popularized the love of Radha and Krishna through his marvellous works.
Presenting the various shades and emotions between the two, he was able to portray them well with ultimate grace and beautiful expressions. Both the characters were sketched out by him through morsels of his creativity. The 'Ashtapadi' in 'raaga Vaasanthi' was followed by the 'thillana', which showcased intricate rhythmic patterns set to a beautiful 'pallavi' and 'anupallavi' of the song follwed by a 'sahitya 'or lyric praising Lord Krishna as the ultimate soul. The 'thillana' was a melodious composition of Nagamani Srinath set to 'aditala' and 'Vaasanthi raaga'.
