At 7.15 in the morning on Sunday, January 8, a normally sleepy 12th Main Road in 3rd Block Koramangala was bustling with activity. Almost 175 residents, attired in bright T Shirts specially printed for the occasion, from three-year-olds to senior citizens, had come forward to run or walk for a cause -- helping school children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Contributing Rs 200 each, the participants had a choice of whether to walk or run (either 2.5 km or 5 km). Most of the participants opted to walk. However, there were the active set, who set out to run the entire five-km stretch.
Koramangala 3rd Block Residents' Welfare Association President Arvind Reddy flagged off the run at 7.45 am. A host of volunteers, yellow flags in hand, had taken up positions all along the route to manage and direct traffic. Koramangala traffic police were also out in strength to minimise traffic disruption. After completion, the participants were treated to breakfast.
All proceeds from the event will go towards providing amenities for the children studying in the Koramangala Village School which is a corporation school. A first of its kind in Koramangala, it is hoped that this event will become a regular feature in the annual calendar and bring out even greater participation next year.
