Just visit sectors 6 and 7 of Dwarka and the first thing you will notice are heaps of garbage that are lying almost everywhere. The area has become a victim of poor garbage disposal and segregation. Garbage is dumped near gates of societies such as Air Force Naval society Sector 7, Harsukh society Sector 7 DDA Sector 6 Pocket 1 and 2, etc.
SS Yadav, a resident of Air Force Naval society, said, "Scattered garbage can be seen near our society gate. There are dustbins but all are filled to the brim as cleaning is not done properly. The area has become unhygienic and stinking. For the last couple of months, the condition has become more pathetic."
For around two-three months, residents of DDA Sector 6 pocket 1 and 2 have been facing the same problem. DP Vajpayee, president of the RWA of DDA Sector 6 pocket 1, said, "The garbage management system is very poor and impractical in Dwarka. Just in front of the main gate of the society, the dustbins overflow but nobody bothers. We call MCD officials and DMSWSL officials but they pass the buck. The Delhi Municipal Solid Waste Solution Limited (DMSWSL) says that only dustbin garbage collection is in their hands and MCD says that scattered garbage is due to overflow of dustbins so they will not clean them."
According to the residents, people of DMSWSL, who are responsible for the disposal of garbage, are not prompt in their action. "Despite our repeated complaints the condition remains the same," said general secretary of RWA Sector 6 Pocket 2 NK Sharma.
DMSWSL supervisor of Dwarka Manish Kumar said, "We collect the waste regularly. But if there is any problem, the garbage would be disposed of as soon as possible. If here is any requirement of extra dustbins, we will provide them."
