
Dr R D Bansode talks to Cityplus about his life, his achievements and his future plans…
A man with multiple hobbies and interests, Dr. R D Bansod, an Estate head and in charge of Agriculture Engineering Department in College of Agriculture, Pune, is a multi-faceted personality who works in various fields with equal elan. At times, he shapes and trains young talent in the making. Bansod, a resident of Shubhashree Woods in Pimple Saudagar has been awarded a gold medal in PhD by Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Uttarakhand.
Cautioning people about the adverse impact of soil erosion in the country, he says, "We need to adopt technology-based farming; currently, we produce 245 million tonnes of foodgrains, which satisfies the country's total consumption. It is necessary to increase the foodgrain production in the coming 25 years; else the country faces severe scarcity of foodgrains. So, we should boost the yield and irrigation methods too."
Achievements…
His sincere efforts towards promotion of sports activities have resulted in him winning several awards at different levels. He won his first award in P G Championship University Chess Championship (GBPUA&T) in 2001-02 and 2002-03 organised across four agricultural zones. He stood first in the 100, 200 and 400 metre athletic events organised at Kolhapur. He emerged as the winner at the mouthorgan competition held at Pune Agriculture College in 2004, ending up as the best player in the general championship too. He was a manager of the national team for a youth festival held in Bengaluru in 2008-09. Apart from this, he led chess teams as a team manager 25 times in various youth festivals. He has also contributed to 170 research and technology-based articles in international journals. In academics, he bagged the gold medal for his research paper presentation held in Nagpur in 2008.
Dr Bansod's family runs an orchestra; so music was naturally inculcated in him since childhood. He plays many instruments, including the mouthorgan, dholak, etc. When asked about his future endeavours, he speaks about his desire to start coaching classes for the upcoming generation. He says, "Everybody needs to share the knowledge and skills they possess; I learnt the same way. That's why I want to start coaching classes and share my knowledge and experience as well with the future generation." 'If faith without work is dead, willingness without action is fantasy,' is what strikes us as he smiles on a parting note.
