The defunct traffic signal at Goregaon East has now been replaced

The commuters travelling from Aarey Check Naka and beyond to Goregaon station are now happy. Reason? The defunct traffic signal has now been replaced with a well-functioning one.  Due to this move, the commuters feel that there is some respite in the traffic problem on the Aarey Check Naka lane.
“Initially it took about four minutes for the traffic signal to turn green from red. When we used to travel occasionally, we never noticed it, thinking that it is crossroad; such precautions are taken to prevent accidents. However, in due course of time, we realised that the signal is actually defunct,” says, Umesh Jaykrishnan, a daily commuter.
He adds, “However, now since the signal is changed, there is no such problem, and we are very thankful to the traffic department for having done so.”
“The vehicles coming from the station road faced no problem, as the signal there was absolutely in good condition. But those going towards the station had to wait for long. When commuters started complaining to the traffic officials and RTO, that’s when they realised that the signal is defunct. I am surprised how come the traffic cops posted there did not realise this. I am relived that we will now save on time and money,” Shruti Patel says.
“Those who had to cross the road too had to wait for a long time to ensure that the vehicles from the other side halt, so that they do not meet with any accidents. But to their surprise, they had to wait for as much as four minutes and only then cross. Since the signal is replaced, it is easier to cross too,” says, Pooja Gupta, a pedestrian.
I M Ghorpade, one of the officials from RTO says, “We have now replaced the signal after frequent complaints from commuters. In case anybody finds a defunct signal, they can complain to the traffic cops stationed on the junctions and we will take an immediate and effective action to ensure the smooth functioning of traffic.”
