Apply online for new ration cards

The Karnataka Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs will be resuming the registration for ration card through online application after January 15, 2013. Those from above as well as below poverty line families can apply.

For identifying and cancelling duplicate ration cards in Karnataka, the department had temporarily stopped the booking of new ration cards for the last for months. Till now almost 59 lakh bogus ration cards have been identified and cancelled. Still the verification process is in progress and same number of ration cards would be eliminated.
The move also aims to lessen the burden on government employees and make the process simpler for the common people as well.
How to apply for ration card online . In rural areas, the registration for ration card will be done through Grama Panchayat Office by paying Rs.10. In urban areas, apart from applying online, registration can also be done in Office of Deputy Director, Food Department.

Who can apply for Ration Card?
•Families who don't have ration card
•Members of divided families
•Newly married
•Temporary ration card holders whose card is expired
Details and documents to be provided for applying new ration cards in urban areas:
•Food Department region
•Electricity bill
•Full address of residence with PIN code
•Name of the family members and relationship
•Profession and annual income
•Duration of residence in the present house
•LPG connection details
•Contact details / phone / mobile number
•Email ID (If available)
•Unmarried persons should provide parents address
Applying for a ration card online after January 15
•Log on to
•Click on apply for a new ration card- Once the window opens, you will see a scrolling text which says you need to click for applying for a new ration card. Click the text and you will be taken to a new window. Sometimes, you may get a server error. In that case, try again after some time.
•Fill in your district, taluk etc. On this page, you will see an online application form. Fill out the fields such as district, taluk etc. and then click next.
•Fill in your personal details- On this page, you need to fill in your personal details such as name, address, office address etc. Fill in these details and then click next.
•Fill in the details of your family members- On this page, you have to fill in the details of your family members. Make sure you fill in the details of all the eligible family members. In case you want to add a member, you can click the "+" button. If you want to edit information of a family member, simply click the select button and click edit. Once you have entered the details of all the family members, click next.
•Final page- On this page, you need to enter details such as your PAN card number, LPG connection number. Enter these details and click the Submit button.
•Take a print out of your acknowledgement number- Once you click the Submit button, you will get an acknowledgment number. Take a print out of this number for future reference.
You can track your ration card status online too
Once you have submitted your online application for ration card, you can track its status online. For tracking the status of your ration card application, you need to visit again. On the home page, you need to click ration cards and you will be taken a new window. In the new window, select your area, fill out the requisite details, and you get to know the status of your ration card.
