Green belts adjoining main roads of Rohini Sectors 23, 24 and 25 are losing its sheen.
For 10 years, the condition of the green belts has been deteriorating. Iron grills at the boundary wall and main gates of the belts have also been stolen. It gives an ugly look to the area.
Rajesh Gulati, a resident of Sector 24 said, "I have been living here for six years. A large area has been allocated by the Delhi Development of Authority (DDA) for green belts and it also allocates money for their upkeep but the belts are in a deplorable condition. Either garbage is dumped here or cattle are seen roaming. Not only this, these have also become public toilets."
In Rohini Sectors 23, 24 and 25, a green belt is made with every 100-ft-wide road. There are around six big green belts. The main road along which green belts are located connects to the heliport in Sector 36.
Binwant Kaur, a resident of Pocket 23, Unity Apartments said, "There's neither any provision of water nor any
gardener for the upkeep of these belts. Everything just exists in the files of the DDA. The DDA should maintain area well as it will look very beautiful and hygienic. It will also provide a serene environment."
Sectors 23, 24 and 25 RWA president Mahinder Singh Bakshi said, "We have lodged so many complaints to the police regarding the theft of gates and grills. We also wrote several letters to the Horticulture department but no action has been taken as yet by anyone. Authorities come, inspect and go but do nothing. Plantation of saplings has not been done here for years. We are really helpless and disappointed."
SP Singh, deputy director, horticulture, MCD said, "We have got the green belts from the DDA recently. Staff for its upkeep will be appointed soon and then the process of its development will start."
