The vacant corporation plot on Dopenahalli Main Road is swarming with debris and posing a great threat to residents. Driving on this road can be risky as garbage dumped on this vacant plot has overflown on to the road and it has reduced the road width by half a size. The dump is not only stinking but it is also causing other problems. Residents are fed up with the situation.
A pile of garbage lies uncleared for many days, with flies and mosquitoes breeding over it. Dumping of waste in an open plot like this is not only giving an unpleasant view but also posing many health hazards for residents. One of the residents said, "Besides mosquitoes, dogs and cows also feed on the garbage dumped here. Now, to make things worse, the dumps include old beds and torn pillows. There was a public toilet here earlier, now authorities have demolished the toilet and this place has become a garbage dump."
Another resident said, "Every day BBMP workers come here to clean the mess, but it is difficult for them to remove all the garbage. The authorities have failed in stopping people from throwing garbage on this plot. The big garbage trucks should be used to clear garbage heap. They should also put up a notice board to avoid such nuisance in the area."
When Cityplus spoke to Domlur corporator Geetha Srinivas Reddy, she said, "There is a litigation filed in the court by a person claiming that the plot belongs to him, the case is still pending in the court, and due to the court intervention we are unable to clear the garbage dump. We are tying our level best to overcome the problem."
The BBMP is always threatening people with dire consequences for dirtying the city. But what is it doing about its own issues. Should residents suffer because there is a case pending in the court?
