GHMC’s new plan would make the city a cable free zone.

Following the  lokayuktha orders to remove overhead cables, GHMC has decided to under take a grand project towards making the city cable free. One of the most ambitious plans in the recent years, it would make almost all the roadside cables of different types disappear.
The underground cabling proposed to cover the roads and stretching across 840 kilometers, would be done in different phases.
After a recently held meeting with cable and telecom operators over the proposal, GHMC Commissioner, MT Krishna Babu said that the roads to be covered under the first phase have already been identified and the works would be completed within three years.
The pilot project would be completed within the next eight months. A Consultant from Mumbai has been hired for the project. However, GHMC would be taking a formal approval from the Standing Committee to execute the project. Babu said that the model has been successfully executed in several metros including Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. "The project would be extended to all colonies in the GHMC limits at a later stage," said Babu.
Three proposals to lay underground cables are being mooted-  in the first one, operators can take up the works by forming a consortium of stake holders, the second proposal proposes that  GHMC will take up the works, while operators pay money and the third one is that the operators will award the works to an outsourced agency.
