Commuters allege that many Coupon Validating Machines (CVMs) at harbour and central line railway stations have not been functioning for a long time. According to them them, the problem has been going on at at Vidyavihar, Ghatkopar, Chembur and Tilak Nagar railway stations.
Daily commuters not want the authorities to install new CVMs are Automatic Tickets Vending Machines (ATVMs) at these stations. Commuters say that starting an extra ticket window will work just as fine.
Anil Thakur, a resident of Ghatkopar, informs, "Railways introduced CVMs (Coupon Validating Machines) and ATVMs (Automatic Ticket Vending Machines) to save people from the hassle of waiting in long queues. But, the authorities have not been able to maintain them properly. Most of the time, CVMs installed at Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar railway stations are non functional. They have installed three CVMs at Ghatkopar and two at Vidyavihar, but they are rarely of any use."
According to residents, the situation is worst at Tilak Nagar railway station. There's only one ticket window at the railway station that is always crowded. Vishal Yadav, a resident of Tilak Nagar, says, "The CVMs at the station have not been working for more than month. After a lot of requests, the authorities took away the CVMS for repairingm, but that too didn't solve the problem. The CVMS are still in a defunct state."
Official take
A K Singh, PRO, Central Railway, informs, "There must be some problem with the CVMs. We will ask the authority to check and repair if they are in a defunct state. Soon we will be installing ATVMs at all harbour and central railway stations. We urge people to use ATVMs instead of CVMs."
