Cityplus reader Keshav Kumar from Belapur rants about the CVMs not functioning properly, thereby adding to the woes of commuters
Commuters on harbour line are facing numerous problems, as the coupon validating machines (CVM) of the railway stations have not been working properly for a long time. We are forced to wait in long queues to buy tickets.
We purchase coupons to save our time, but to our disappointment the CVMS don’t work. CVMs installed at Panvel, Kharghar, Belapur, Nerul among others haven’t been functioning for a few months now.
What is the use of buying coupons when we have to wait in queues to buy tickets.
According to railway sources, in 2010-11 CVM coupons comprised 12 per cent of the total suburban ticket sales of Central Railway (CR) as compared with 6 per cent in the previous year. The sale of tickets through unreserved ticketing system (UTS) stood at 82 per cent.
The queue for purchasing tickets during peak hours is very long. It is quite difficult for senior citizens and the women to stand in queues for hours.
In a city like Mumbai, where local trains are the most convenient and cheapest mode of transportation, CVMs play a very important role. Therefore, the railway authorities should pay required attention to the problems faced by the commuters as soon as possible.
