Directives to be followed while de-silting SWDs

The commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recently issued an internal office circular to additional and joint commissioners and chief engineers of all eight BBMP Zones regarding rules to be adhered strictly while de-silting Storm Water Drains (SWD).

  •  To prepare a cost estimation to de-silt SWDs.
  •  Photograph and video to be taken while de-silting SWDs.
  •  Taking pre-measurements of the volume of silt compulsorily.
  •  Locations to be identified in respective zones to transport and dispose silt. The place should be notified as silt disposal place.
  •  The silt removed from the drains should be transported to the disposal place within 24 hours of its removal from the drains.
  •  Photograph and video to be taken after the silt is disposed at the notified or identified disposal place.
  •  Blueprint of the place where silt is removed and disposed should be produced.
  •  Cost estimation for removal of silt should get administrative and technical approval.
  •  Workers and machineries to be utilised for de-silting.
  •  Permission should be taken for de-silting drains on emergency basis.
  •  To take immediate action to fill the potholes on roads.
