Durga Tekdi, a small hill is turning out to be a delight for walkers, where people throughout the city come here to breathe fresh air

Spread over 75 hectares of land, Durga Tekdi stands where trees line the walking area, little flowers bloom on the edge of the hedges, canopies and seats invites senior citizens to rest after their morning walk. Making it a walker's paradise, here you will find many people walking, chit-chatting and exercising and some senior citizens are seen resting after a long walk. Most of the people who visit the Durga Tekdi have been coming here for more than 5-6 years.  And it's not only the locals who come here, many travel as far as 20-30 kilometers to visit this paradise.  As you sneak through this tekdi, you will find as many as 160000 trees.  Plants such as rain trees, Pelthohorum, Ficus, Neem Glyricidia, Suru, Sisoo, Kasid, Subabul all have been planted.
Sharing her experience, Jyonita Deshmukh says, "Me and friends come here daily for a walk early morning. This is one of my favorite places in Pune.  I come here because it makes me feel as though I am far away from the concrete jungle." She adds, "I generally prefer to sit near the waterfall or floating fountain because I like the sound of the water."
"I have been coming here for nearly 2 years. This is place where me and Jyonita can relax and chit chat and this is the only time we get to spend with each other as she is busy with her work and I am busy with my work. So we make it a point to meet daily at Durga Tekdi away from all the tensions." says Jyonita's friend Sneha M.
From laughter club, yoga group, meditation group, you will find all kinds of small groups here. And each group has a different story to tell how they come together. Speaking to Cityplus, Laughter club members say, "When we started to come to Durga Tekdi, we didn't know each other. Gradually we got to know each other thus we formed a group.  And now we meet daily and laugh at problems in open air."  Ask them what has made Durga Tekdi so popular that so many people flock in here they say, "I will give its credit to PCMC who is maintaining it nicely. There is a lot of effort taken by PCMC every day, and we see some kind of work happening always. It is one of the well maintained gardens in the city that is why it's so charming. Also facilities over here are good. There is a play area for kids, and benches have been installed at proper places."
