Various social welfare organisations of Dwarka have joined hands for unifying the sub city into a single constituency as per dwarkaites’ popular demand.
Presently, the sub city is divided into three assembly constituencies. In a discussion organized by Dwarka Lok Kalyan Manch (DLKM) many dignitaries and intellectuals from many organizations who have been working for the development of the sub city like Dwarka Forum and Neighbourhood Ladies Get-together and Federation of all RWAs participated in the discussion.
The discussion on the unification of Dwarka assembly constituencies took place in the presence of former election commissioner, Delhi, SP Marwah and nodal officer of Unique Identity Card (UID) scheme, Kripa Ram Sharma. Speaking on the matter former election commissioner, Delhi Marwah said that in 2001, there was less population and now there is no chance of renaming the constituency till the next delimitation takes place which would be done after the submission of the report on the basis of the census of 203. But he agreed on the subject of the delimitation of the wards in Dwarka. "There is no possibility of single constituency before 2031 but delimitation of corporation wards is possible and that can be done for Dwarka," he said.
On the irregularities in making of voter cards president of DLKM said that the cards were not being issued properly and genuine voters are still deprived of having IDs.
On UID and voter cards the nodal officer of UID scheme Kripa Ram Sharma said that they were looking to set up an office for UID in Dwarka and soon the work would be started in the sub city. President of Dwarka Forum Rejimon CK, president of NLGT Cicily Kodiyan and social activist of Dwarka Kamaljeet Sehrawat also expressed their views in front of the dignitaries and advocated the subject to make Dwarka a single constituency city. All the speakers from various social organisations on the occasion supported the demand of a unified constituency for Dwarka and also proposed that the name of Matiala constituency should be changed as Dwarka constituency.
Apart from the office bearer of the Lok Manch, the meeting was also attended by Sushil Kumar, Ashok Chaitanya and MK Gupta, all from Dwarka Forum, Cicily Kodiyan and Raje Kurup from NLGT, K S Bhati and Hari Chand, Sanjay Agarwal, Pramod Tiwari, Ranjit Singh and many office bearers of CGHS and RWAs.
