Evergreen trees and flowers will be planted across all greenbelts and road dividers.
Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has decided to set up as many as 40 more nurseries wherein different species of trees will be farmed. The Horticulture Department has been issued directives to plant evergreen trees at identified lands. The new nurseries will be opened at Devilal Park Sector 22, Smriti Vatika Sector 23 (A), Sector 21-22 Community Park, Plaza Park Sector 29, Leisure Valley Park Sector 29, Rose Garden Sector 15 (I), Sector 31 Greenbelt, Sector 45-46 Community Park, Sector 5 Community Park, Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Basai, Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Behrampur Sector 40 and Botanical Garden Sector 52 (A).
While speaking to Cityplus, Dr Praveen Kumar HUDA Administrator confirmed, "We will cultivate the species of plants those bear colourful flowers throughout the year. The new nurseries will have special and floral trees so that the barren greenbelts and intersections could be given a facelift."
Earlier, there was a single nursery at Sector 14 in Gurgaon to cater to the needs of citizens. Failing in its objective to fulfil the requirement of the public, the decision to expand the nurseries has been taken.
Executive engineer (Horticulture), HUDA, VK Nirala said, "As per the directives of HUDA Administrator, the work on nurseries has already started. The Horticulture Department is responsible to provide adequate trees and saplings to all colony parks for maintaining greenery but it failed because of disproportion in production and demand."
Previously HUDA had decided to carry out a mass plantation drive to beautify the dividers, crossings and greenbelts in the recent past. But the concept couldn't be given a shape due to ill-equipped horticulture wing.
"To materialise the plan, we needed floral and green trees in bulk those remain flourished in all seasons. Thus, more nurseries are being developed that could provide sufficient number of all-season trees to be planted in the entire city," he added.
Meanwhile, the feasibility was also being checked if the greenbelts could have a colour-based theme. The different greenbelts would be given a separate theme and flowers of one-kind species would be planted to make it look more attractive.
Flowers to be planted
The species of flowers to be planted in these nurseries are including different colours of Roses, Chrysanthemum, Jasmine, Orchids, Lilies, Carnations, Daffodil, Dahlia, Daisy, Dandelion, Sunflower, Tulips and others.
