The vacant plot on 7th 'A' Main Rd, HRBR Layout, 1st Block, is teeming with plastic covers and other filth, posing a big problem to residents.
While entering through this lane, one can see piles of garbage at the vacant site that emit unbearable stink, besides causing other problems. Residents are clearly fed up with the worsening situation and have given up hope. "There is no use ranting about the problem unless there is any action being undertaken. Sometimes I see people from the nearby areas coming and throwing garbage. Passers-by also use it as a public urinal. BBMP officials hardly come and clear the place unless we lodge complaints with them several times," said one of the residents.
Besides rats and dogs, sheep and cows also feed on the garbage dumped at the vacant plot. Kids try to stay away from the area because of fear and unbearable stench. Devesh, one of the kids residing in the lane, said: "Sometimes while we play cricket here, the ball accidentally falls in the vacant site. At that time, I find it really difficult to locate the ball as the place is full of garbage. A few months ago, a snake had entered into our backyard. So now I avoid going there."
Residents, who stay a few yards away from the lane, feel that despite their layout being a good area, garbage problems continue to plague them. "It would be really good if the BBMP sends a garbage van to collect the waste deposited here at least once in a week. If that is not possible, then a garbage container could be installed so that people find it convenient to dump the waste," said Ravindranath, a resident.
When Cityplus tried to explain about the prevailing situation to one of the BBMP authorities, he said: "We send autos to clear the garbage on every alternate day. It's sad that even the educated class sometimes throw the garbage. I sincerely request them not to dirty the place as we are trying our best to keep this residential layout clean."
