
Fourteen-year-old national level skater Mayur wants to make skating as famous as cricket in India.
Mayur Savarkar is five-year-old and is speed skating. But with his speed and dexterity on the wheels, he has already shown his talent and won many medals in various competitions at different levels. A student of 9th Standard of Vidyanchal School, Aundh, sky is the limit for Mayur when it comes to skating.
First stint
Talking about his passion, Mayur says, "I started skating when I was in 5th standard. Initially, it was a hobby for me but I got more and more interested and engrossed when I started getting proper training in it.
I began to take it seriously and decided to take part in various skating competitions." A serious learner, Mayur has been taking training from eminent skating coach Subodh Patil, who is a Gold medalist and a Chhatrapati Shivaji Award winner in Ice Skating.
The success story
Mayur is currently undergoing a Cognitive Skills training programme at Neutral Space. He has participated in various national and international competitions over the last few years. Mayur was ranked 4th in National Ice Skating Competition in Shimla in 2009. He also stood 5th in Dehradun Open National Ice Skating Competition. Taking his passion forward, Mayur had participated in the 2011 International Speed Skating Competition in Belgium. He stood 1st out of the three boys who had participated from India.
Sky is the limit
Mayur, being an energetic kid, has interests in playing computer games and other sports as well. Being equally good in his academics, Mayur tries to excel in all the possible aspects of life. Though it is his dream to become a chemical scientist but now he has something else in his mind. He wants to win as many medals for India at the international level as possible.
