18th Cross at 22nd B Main, HSR Layout, Sector-2, has been converted into a debris dumping site.
On either side of the road, construction waste materials are dumped, which have formed into a big heap. The debris includes wastes like damaged commodes, plaster of paris (POP), stone slabs, broken bricks and plastic bags. The worst part is that the cows graze here and they chew the wastes, which is very harmful to them.
The condition has been like this for almost a year now. The road has narrowed down due to this, making the traffic movement also slow. Nobody knows who is dumping the waste here. In the neighbouring roads, no construction work is going on and it looks like people just come from a different part of the locality and do this. Also some people use the road side to urinate, compounding the environmental pollution.
Mohammad Dhanula, a resident, said: "It has been lying like this for months now. Nobody clears it, but only adds to the pile. Even if we residents try and clear up one pile, the next day a new pile is dumped."
Geeta Srinivasan, another resident, said: "The debris is dirty and has occupied a lot of space. More than that, it is very dangerous because children play on bicycles here and at times they fall on the debris hurting them."
RS Hiremath, president of the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) , Sector-2, said: "People have found a good place to dump waste here and they feel that is it is a readymade godown and since the debris doesn't move or bite so the authorities feel that it is best left like that. Complaints have been made about this."
Shivalinga Gowda, executive engineer BBMP, said: "People come and dump debris at odd hours like early morning or late evening. It is very difficult to keep track of them. The residents should also take steps and help us so that we can find out the root of the problem."
Who is the source?
Nobody knows who is dumping the waste here. No construction work is going on in the neighbouring roads and it looks like people from different parts of the locality are doing this. Also some people use the road side to urinate, compounding the environmental pollution.
