Jayanagar is relatively free from dog menace except for a few pockets in Tilak Nagar.

There few places near some restaurants and slaughter houses where dogs are in large numbers but instances of dog bites are very rare. Thanks to animal lovers who have adopted stray dogs in their vicinity. BBMP and several NGOs are active and have effectively used Animal Birth Control (ABC).
Many residents feel there is no noticeable dog attack, though isolated cases have occurred. Garbage management has reduced dogs to a large extent. A few smart ones have found solution by relentlessly waiting outside stalls/malls and confectionary shops for a prey. The owners of such shop have become foster parents for these dogs.
Bhaskar, resident of 5th Block Jayanagar said, "I have not noticed any dog menace in the locality but isolated incidence are highlighted more than required. All thanks to ABC."
Another resident Nagaiah said, "Dog bites are common. But it is not much of threat in Jayanagar. Dogs are in large numbers only in few slums areas."
Sowmya, an animal activist was of the opinion that dogs can be kept under check by ABC and she said, "People have to become more responsible. Stop blaming authorities. Call BBMP or any NGOs if they see dogs unsterilized. Identifying unsterilized dogs are easy; a visible ear notch signifies that they are sterilized. Better garbage management and being more reciprocity to animals is the way to good co-existence."

• Dr Vidhyasagar, a veternary doctor has a few tips to avoid dog bites.
• Do not throw stones at dogs, they have good memory.
• When you notice a dog fight, move away.
• Dogs are very protective of their puppies. Do not handle them without a professional help.
• Don't kill dogs as it is punishable under law.
• Don't abandon dogs as they are extremely attached to their master and it is very difficult for them to cope in new territory.
• During mating season, dogs become aggressive. So be watchful.
Inform BBMP or NGO if you notice a dog unsterilized.
