The police station in D2 Block caters to Harinagar and the residents of Janakpuri D2 Block have to go to Mayapuri for filing any complaint.
One can relate this to a Bollywood movie scene where when a person asks for help in a police station, the answer he gets is that the area does not fall under their jurisdiction. The same has been happening with the residents of Janakpuri D2 Block.
So residents have to go a long way to file a single complaint and residents feel helpless.
"We have been facing many problems for a long time and have made several appeals in front of different authorities but nothing has been done. It is not easy to travel more than 15 km to file a complaint when there is a police station in our area itself. The question is that why this police station doesn't cater to us?" said Deepak Chopra, a resident of Janakpuri.
Mayapuri is at a distance of around 15 km from Janakpuri. This also troubles residents of Harinagar, who have to come all the way to Janakpuri, for filing a complaint.
"It would have been better if we could have filed complaints at a police station in our area. Recently, for reporting a chain snatching incident near Janak Park, I had to travel a lot which was terrible. Most of the time officers keep on changing and reporting an incident. I understand that there can't be a police station right outside my house but it should be at least in the vicinity. I shouldn't be travelling for kilometres to file a complaint," said Radhika Awasthi, a resident of Harinagar.
As a lot of time also gets wasted, many people have stopped going to the police station. Crime incidents are also on the rise due to this.
"Who is responsible for this mess? Why don't the authorities think before deciding about the jurisdiction? Is jurisdiction more important than citizens? We want these answers from the authorities as we are the sufferers. The authorities should solve this problem at the earliest," said Rakesh Sharma, another resident.
ACP West Zone Pankaj Kumar said, "We cannot take much action on this issue as it comes under L-G. The change had occurred in 2009 and if the residents are facing immense problems then they should send a written complaint to the L-G office."
