Manjeet Nagil's gold medal in the WAKO World Cup Diamond Kickboxing Championships’11 held at Anapa, Russia has established him as India's one of the most promising kickboxer.
His passion for martial arts drove him into kickboxing. And since 2001, Manjeet has been participating in kickboxing championships at different levels and has scores of medals - gold, silver and bronze - in his kitty.
"It has been a great experience learning this art of self-defence," said 19-year-old Manjeet, a resident of Sector 11, who, at the age of seven, came in contact with Santosh Aggarwal, secretary of Haryana Kickboxing Association, and started his rigorous training in 1998.
"It was my childhood dream to become an international boxer so I opted for kickboxing, as it is akin to
boxing. But, to one's surprise, there was no coach available in Faridabad for this sport," said Manjeet, a BBS student at MVN, Palwal.
He said, "I always follow a strict regimen to make my mark in any championship I am taking part. On an average I devote three to four hours a day to sharpen my skills and to create milestones."
Nagil attributed his success to his coach Ravinder Gole and his businessman father Satpal Singh, saying that without their constant support, motivation, guidance and encouragement the day was not possible. "As a coach, Gole sir always trained me to perform well and to win many medals," he added.
Despite the fact that up-to-the-mark facilities for popular sports such as cricket, tennis and swimming were easily available in District Sports Complex, Sector-12, Manjeet went to the Haryana Kickboxing Association for getting important tips and honing his skills as well.
So far, he has bagged over a dozen of medals, including bronze at Bihar in 1999, gold at Orissa in 2001, silver at Kolkata in 2003, gold at Ahmadabad and Maharashtra in 2004, gold at Kolkata in 2009 and gold at Orissa in 2010 and many more.
"As of now, I am busy preparing of the World Cup Kickboxing Championships 2012 to be held in Italy. I will try my best to get the champion's trophy for our country. And I believe in God that he will never let me down," said Nagil.
