Fed up with empty promises made by the authorities, the women community of Dwarka has kick-started a cleanliness campaign.
The women community of the sub-city has taken up the responsibility of making the city clean and hence have started a cleaning campaign under the aegis of Association of Neighbourhood Ladies Get-together Group (ANHLGT).
With a clear aim of making the sub-city clean and free from garbage, the women volunteers' aware residents, especially ladies of other sectors on cleanliness.
Speaking on the mission, president of ANHLGT Cicily Kodiyan said, "After being fed up with the lackadaisical approach of the civic bodies we have taken up the responsibility of cleaning the area."
The drive is organised by the people of the particular area in which the community people especially women, the area councillor and civic agency are involved.
The ladies visit the filthy site and sweep and lift garbage in the presence of the officials and throw the garbage in the dustbins.
"We are going society to society and meeting presidents of the society and also interact with the residents. We try to know the loopholes in the infrastructure of cleaning from the authority. We then plan and arrange a meeting and organise a cleaning drive for that particular area," added Kodiyan.
The response of the community is very good and mainly housewives are very enthusiastic about this campaign.
"Within a month, cleaning campaign took place in sector 6, 7 and 9. Now we are planning to move in the other areas. There is a need for positive approach from residents as well as authorities' side," added Pramila Malik, joint secretary of the group.
The group has so far met the president of 17 societies in Sector 23 to know what is missing in their areas and society for cleaning.
