Huge generators and batteries are lying unattended in an open plot, risking numerous lives in Rampuri.
An untoward incident can happen any time here if electric wires, which pass over them, spark or cranes, which load or offload these generators on trucks, falter.
With no one to check, commercial activities have been carried out freely from this plot situated in a residential colony. If no attention is paid to the issue, it may lead to a severe mishap in future.
Several generators and batteries have been lying in the plot for days. "We have reported about this menace to both District Magistrate as well as Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam City Commissioner, but nothing has been done to solve this problem," said SK Maheshwari, founder president, Delta Colonies Residents Welfare Association.
Loading and offloading of generators and batteries keeps happening all day and night. The repairing and testing of the generators is also done in this plot. "Are these people allowed to carry out these kinds of
commercial activities in a residential area? Do they take any precautionary measures? Will anybody check this illegal activity? We have been asking these questions from many authorities but to no avail. The residents of this area are in grave danger as if any blast happens in this plot its impact will also bring down several neighbouring houses," said Gayatri Dasgupta, a resident of Rampuri.
A big park is also located adjacent to the plot where a huge number of children and senior citizens flock in morning and evening. "Children are innocent and don't recognise any danger. Sometimes while playing they go near these generators which can lead to an untoward incident any time. The authorities should take action urgently and stop this menace," said Sanjeev Chawan, another resident.
The cranes, which load and offload the generators, are parked on the road hampering the movement of other residents. These cranes turn the parking problem already prevalent in the area from bad to worse troubling everyone.
Basant Lal, city commissioner, GNN said, "We have not yet received any complaint about such a danger. If something like this is happening then it will be checked soon."
