
"Make people aware about RAY"- Mayor
Mohammed Majid Hussain, Mayor, GHMC has appealed to the Corporators of GHMC to create awareness among the public about the prestigious Rajiv Avas Yojana (RAY) Programme, informing them about the benefits of this programme .
While addressing the Corporators in a two day Orientation programme for awareness about RAY, the Mayor said, "The consent of 70% of the total population of a particular slum is compulsory for implementation of RAY in that particular slum and the Corporators must play a key role in their ward to create awareness about and the implementation of this programme, to have a slum- free ward and a slum- free city."
He congratulated the efforts of GHMC officials in getting selected for implementing the pilot project for the entire country and hoped that it will be successful in this prestigious endeavor.
"Under RAY Programme for Housing, Government of India bears 50% of the total expenditure, State Government bears 20% and the beneficiaries have to bear the remaining 30%, either through bank loan or through down
payment in installments in a phased manner, " the Mayor informed.
M.T. Krishna Babu, Commissioner, GHMC said that the RAY programme will be covering 1476 slums with an estimated 2, 33,000 houses to be constructed with a cost of Rs 12,054 crore in all the phases. "Each unit with an area of 25sq.mts would cost about Rs 3.5 lakh for which Govt. of India , State Government and the beneficiary will contribute," he further elaborated.
"As per Government of India norms, 20 feet road is mandatory under RAY Programme and relaxation can be given up to 12 feet. However, there is flexibility in number of floors to be constructed under RAY," the Commissioner added.
The Government of India will sanction 40 to 50 slums in the first year according to the Commissioner. He further requested the Corporators to cooperate in convincing the public to go for RAY and preparing DPR (Detailed Project Report) for these 40 to 50 slums.
Floor Leaders Sri Singireddy Srinivas Reddy, Sri Bangari Prakash and other 30 Corporators from various divisions have already attended the orientation programme held at MCR HRD, Jubilee Hills.
