For five years, the elderly have been making all out efforts but nothing has been done by the authorities in this endeavour.Senior citizens in Raja Garden have been craving for a space of their own. Activities like playing games or holding general meetings are currently either held on terraces or parks, which is very troublesome in this chilly weather. "We want recreation centre to organise quiz, games or birthday celebrations. We want the local councillor to utilise his funds for constructing a recreational centre," said Sudarshan Kaur, a senior citizen.
"We have been following up with local councillor, MLA and MP for five years regarding this issue. But nothing has been done till now," said Rambhaj, secretary, Raja Garden Residents' Welfare Association.
Senior citizens generally sit in parks either in the morning from 11 am to 12 am or evenings from 4 pm to 6 pm
and do all sorts of fun-filled activities.
"We have requested the authorities to construct the senior citizens' recreation centre by adding a floor in the community centre located near Saraswati Park, Raja Garden. It is the perfect place but our local councillor and MLA don't listen to us in this regard at all," said PP Sahgal, president, Raja Garden Residents' Welfare Association.
MCD councillor Rampal Tyagi said, "Residents have not come to me with any complaints regarding senior citizens recreation centre. We do have a community centre but haven't given any thought about one for senior citizens."
