Broken footpaths with left-over slabs piled up is the new landmark at 2nd Cross, Link Road, Malleshwaram, after the broken bus shelter and improper roads, about which Cityplus had reported earlier. With dug-up pavements and broken slabs, the entire stretch has become the worst nightmare for the residents of the area.
"We are really tired of the problems which are being added on to us. This area has been ignored by the authorities with no proper action being taken on time. The broken bus shelter has been left like this for a year and no action has been taken on the same. Now, adding to the problem, we have the entire stretch at 2nd Cross being dug up in the name of development. It is really disappointing to see such a step-motherly treatment to our area," said Suresh, a resident of the area.
With the pavements being dug up, the situation has worsened forcing people resort to walk on the road. "The entire stretch is dug up and we have the slabs also piled up on the side. The only option is to walk on the road. It is really unsafe to let our children move out of the homes at this condition. Especially for senior citizens, the Link Road has turned out to be a strict no-way. Neither can they walk on this broken and raised pavements nor have they any space to sit and wait for the buses at the bus shelter," added Sudha, another resident.
Though the residents have many complaints to pour on, the authorities claim that this project is part of the revamp of the area. "It is part of our development work and the entire area will have new footpaths soon. Within 15 days, we expect to complete the work in the area," said Dharmaraj, Assistant Executive Engineer, BBMP.
As the authorities claim for development work with new footpaths for the people, the residents still have no hope as their year-long problems have not yet been solved.
