Corporation asks residents to be vigilant during the days

On Friday July 6, a teenager was swept into Arabian Sea by a strong wave at Marine Drive, Churchgate. The boy was lucky and he was later rescued by cops. This was the 10 incident of drowning in past one month. In order to ensure the safety of the residents and to avoid such untoward drowning cases to happen the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NNMC) has declared high tide dates.
Deputy Commissioner J Sinnerkar says, “The corporation alerts the citizens to prevent themselves from visit beaches, or other water bodies during high tide day. We request citizens to keep in mind the natural disaster of 26/7, 2005 deluge when the city was flooded with water and people were struggling to save themselves. Do not plan any outing during high tides and be safe.”
Ganesh Nochur, former campaign director from Green Peace NGO, informs, “When there is a combination of high tide and heavy rainfall, it leads to flooding. The storm water drains are not well developed to accommodate the rain water plus water entering the city, which leads to flooding.
