The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) may benefit Old Gurgaon residents soon. Plans are on to connect the Old Gurgaon to Palam Vihar airport via Metro.
During a discussion on project report of metro routes, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the District Town Planning department (DTP), both civic agencies had proposed an amendment in the metro link between Dwarka to IFFCO Chowk.
As per the newly proposed route, the metro should be diverted from Palam Vihar to Rajiv Chowk via Lt Atul Kataria Chowk and Sheetla Mata temple road.
"The new route will be more effective and people living in Old Gurgaon could avail metro service at their doorstep," said a senior official in the department.
Earlier, it was decided that there would be three stations between Dwarka to IFFCO Chowk including Brijwasan, Palam Vihar and Maruti Suzuki plant.
Now, the local authorities have put forth their suggestions to change the route. If DMRC finds it suitable, a fresh survey could be conducted to extend the facility in larger public interest. Since there was no direct public transport available between Old Gurgaon to Palam Vihar, it would be proved as a boon.
"The new idea needs to be reviewed and approved by the Haryana government. As the DMRC officials approve it, the report will be forwarded to the state government," he added.
If officials are to be believed it was difficult to state how long it would take in getting the things finalised.
Spokesperson, DMRC, Mohinder Yadav told Cityplus, "We have received the proposal from HUDA chief regarding amendment in the routes of metro link. The idea will be discussed with the senior officials and then its feasibility will be checked."
