In a bid to impress the voters, corporators clear the pending work but in a hurried manner, which should have been properly done much earlier. This practice has drawn flak from the public.
With the voting date close at heels, the residents of Aundh and Baner have held many meetings and get together of getting to know their aspiring candidates and many of these candidates have made tall promises too.
Some of the present corporators have, in fact, tried to garner vote bank by clearing and working on getting some of the pending work in civic and other done rather fast. DV Rao of Aundh Vikas Mandal (AVM) mentioned that the Baner road is one of the most important roads, which have been made in a very shoddy manner. It is not yet complete and people are tired of finding the road incomplete. "We are tired of using
road which is half done. We need better street lights and they should be working throughout and not only in some part of the roads. The road debris needs to be cleared before the contractor is paid or given completion certificate. The culvert near Varsha Park is still not over. It is being done very shoddily and bad quality work," he laments.
Wireless Colony, who has been complaining about a new road as well as footpath, was in for a surprise when the present corporator (Sangeeta Gaikwad) announced a new road and even did a ceremony seeking the residents' blessing in votes. Rohin Nagvankar, resident of Nagras Road, feels that election time sees a lot of fast work taking place, especially the pending work. "Why can't they finish civic work in time and wait for elections. We are waiting for the AIMMS hospital project and the promised Natyagruha to be ready, but again, it has been left hanging due to elections," he says.
While the residents of Anand Park are not happy at all; Elections saw them get a new tar road but it has been done in a very shoddy way. Meanwhile, the promise of laying the water pipeline in Kotbagi lane as well the bollards at the T junction are on hold because of code of conduct.
