Vimala Devi Jampala’s panache for the dance form will take her to places
This seventeen year old dancer has one dream to make a reality and that is to redefine the richness of Kuchipudi to the next generation. Introduced to Kuchipudi at five, Vimala was one among 32 chosen from all over India to attend the Talent Identification Programme organised by the Duke of University in India 2008.
Kranti Kiran, her dance teacher believes, "She is a quick learner and has carved a niche for herself."
A glittering star
The impeccability in her performances was witnessed by her audience in sixty performances that she has
given so far. She recalls her memorable moment, "In August 2011 I played a lead in five dance ballets at Ravindra Bharati. There were total five performances wherein two were solo and three group performances. The appreciation from the audience was overwhelming."
Dance and academics
With Kuchipudi, Vimala also excels in academics. In 2010, she was a member of the University of Washington's Academy program which admits 35 high school students to join the university as freshmen in the Honors program.
Student of Meridian School, Vimala earned the title of best student for consecutive three years in her high schooling. In Seventh, Eighth and Nineth standard she was recognised as the Best Student by the school. "I am proud of her as she handles both dance and academics with brilliance. I think somewhere it's the hard work of the teachers which has paid off" exults Samatha Jampala, her mother.
Future plans
Vimala also wants to prove her potential by becoming successful a woman entrepreneur in information technology and wants to possess same skills like Steve Jobs. However, she considers Kuchipudi to be a significant part of her life which she never wants to part with.
