Haphazard parking, indiscriminate garbage dumping, potholed-roads and missing drains on the roadside are some of the miseries that the residents in some parts of Indiranagar ward are facing in their day-to-day life.
Residents of HAL II Stage, West of 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar are a worried lot. Reason: Residents complain that BBMP has failed miserably in addressing the civic woes from 1st Cross to 5th Cross between 7th Main and 12th Main. They alleged that BBMP has totally neglected the civic issues in the area with no improvement done for the betterment.
Potholed-roads, garbage pile-up, dog menace and non-existence of roadside drains are some of the civic woes of the residents here. Adding to their miseries, commercialization in the area has taken its toll and has become a bane for the residents. Inordinate parking of four-wheelers by shoppers or customers in front of the main entrance of the houses for hours together has irked the residents and it has become a nuisance for them.
R Subramaniam, a resident for over 40 years, lamented that the area is the most neglected pocket in Indiranagar and no improvement has been done since many years by the BBMP. "Civic amenities are dead here. Roads are not asphalted for long and potholes have occurred. There are no roadside drains as well," he fretted.
"Roads are in pathetic condition due to heavy vehicular traffic like commercial water tankers in the area. Garbage clearance is irregular and garbage is piled-up on the roadside," the senior citizen added.
BL Raju, another resident, said that elected representatives visit the area only during elections to seek vote from the residents and no attention is given for the improvement. "They make false assurances that never see the light of the day," he added.
He pointed out that it is dangerous for senior citizens, women and children to walk on the roads during dark due to stray dog menace in the area. "Despite lodging complaints several times to BBMP to catch stray dogs, no action has been taken on this regard," Raju said.
"Adding to our miseries, four-wheelers who come for shopping and customers of commercial establishments park their vehicles on both sides of the road and in front of the house for long hours. Even valet parking is done in front of our houses by restaurant people. During weekends, youths in four-wheelers park their vehicles and play music loudly from the car stereo after 10 pm thereby creating nuisance for the residents," S Murthy, another resident said.
Speaking to Cityplus, Domlur Ward Corporator Geetha Srinivas Reddy (BBMP Ward No. 112) assured to solve civic problems in the area. "Residents should bring it to our notice. Potholes will be filled in the coming days and we are trying to achieve zero-garbage. However, residents are also equally responsible for garbage pile-up on roadsides as they dispose the wastes," she pointed out.
Regarding stray dog menace, the corporator informed that almost all the dogs in the ward were sterilized and cannot be culled.
