The fast food joint has, allegedly, occupied the drive thru built meant for handicaps, leading to jam, especially on weekends.
CityPlus has been following up on the traffic management as well as illegal construction put up by the likes of Reliance Mart and Mcdonalds. The resident members of the Wireless Colony and Kumar Classic has approached the PMC ward office as well as the traffic department, Chaturshringi division, asking them to help in managing the traffic flow, which was heaviest during the weekend from Friday to Sunday.
"We have had several letters, phone calls regarding the traffic congestion happening at the turnabout from Kumar Classic society. The mayhem would take place when McDonalds drive thru from a ramp from Kumar Classic side towards Mahadji Shinde road and would also be full of four wheelers and would create problems for many vehicles turning towards Bhale Chowk. Finally, we wrote a letter to PMC to find out what was the problem at this site and we were shown the blueprint of the building, which clearly stated that the ramp, which the McDonalds were using as a drive thru was built only for the handicap to access the restaurant and no other purpose. A notice in this regard has been sent to the fast food joint by PMC," said API Sanjay Patange, Chatushringi Traffic department.
"We have been informed to take action against any vehicle, which is without any handicapped person in it," he informs.
While the Reliance Mart has promised to provide wardens for helping in managing traffic, they have also given the traffic police department clear instructions to tow away all the vehicles that violate
the law.
"We have received in writing a letter from an official at Reliance Mart that they will be providing us with wardens to man the traffic near the Wireless Colony turning. We have been instructed to tow off the vehicles which park under the newly posted 'No Parking' signs. Thus, violating traffic rules," explains Patange.
Avinash Neelkanth, resident of Wireless Colony heaves a sigh of relief upon hearing this news. "This will mean that the road will be relatively free of traffic and vehicles won't jam our main road."
