DHBVN seems to be least bothered about the growing dissent among the residents regarding the problem of anomalies in electricity bills.
The residents of various sectors of the city are getting bills up to `50,000 per month, that too with power cuts of minimum 4 to 5 hours a day.
The residents allege that the meter reading is not done properly before the billing and hence faulty bills are sent to the customers.
Many residents of Sector 21 D are facing this trouble including RWA president BN Sharma. “Many a time, no one from the department comes to take the reading and they send the bills as per their wish. Most of the time the staff remains unavailable in the office so we can't even get our problems solved."
Everyday about 10-15 consumers can be seen at the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) office with the issue of faulty electricity bills. The RWA has also been constantly approaching the authorities including superintending engineer, executive engineer and SDO to get their meter reading and bill rectified but all their efforts seem to go in vain.
Vishal Bhasin a resident added, “About two months ago, the DHVBN had sent an erroneous bill of Rs 40,000. I went to the electricity office and got it corrected but in the next month again they added the figures and I received a bill of Rs 50,000. The officers blame the software for such faults."
The department is not only sending incorrect bills but even misbehaving with the consumers going for getting the bills corrected. Sangeeta Singh (name changed), a resident of Sector 55 said, "I have been getting bills up to Rs 50,000 and whenever I go for correction, the employees instead of accepting their fault start misbehaving with us and even ask for money.”
Meanwhile acting DHBVN SE Mukesh Gupta informed, “The trouble is arising due to the wrong meter reading by the employees. If the employees are not going for meter reading, strict action would be taken against them. If the residents are facing any such problem than they can get it corrected at the DHVBN office.”
