Pattabhiramnagar Ward (ward number 168) will soon have a new sleek single pole transformer which will not only occupy less space but will provide more space for pedestrians and commuters.
The foundation was laid to install transformer at 36th Cross, 7th Main, 4th Block Jayanagar by Vijayakumar BN, MLA, Jayanagar, and Sri Ramamurthy CK corporator and chairman, planning, BBMP on February 13.
KEB transformers located in the commercialized Jayanagar locality was posing as a problem for residents as it occupied more space and it had also become very old. A long time appeal to convert old transformers into single pole transformer has materialized in Pattabhiramnagar Ward. The existing transformers occupied lot of space. This step will not only ease the problem but also make the ward look aesthetically better. Some parts of Jayanagar have already had single pole transformer.
Keshava Kumar, president of Jayanagar Residents Welfare Civic and Cultural Association said, "Our association had requested to replace the KEB transformers to single poles in few roads in Pattabhiramanagar Ward. Our corporator and MLA were kind enough to replace existing transformers to a single pole transformer. It actually took two years to start this project."
Another resident, N Mukund, joint secretary, Citizen Action Forum said, "The long pending request by residents to replace transformers on the footpaths has materialised today. The old transformer was obstructing the traffic and entire footpath was not usable. I thank MLA, Corporator Ramamurthy and BESCOM for the efforts .We hope the work would be completed as per schedule. Since summer is fast approaching, we request BESCOM to have interaction with citizens to conserve energy."
Speaking on the occasion Corporator Ramamurthy said, "It was a long pending work and MLA and I have taken up this work in our ward to facilitate easy movement of pedestrians and also to ease out traffic flow on roads. Today we have started the work on 7th Main and eventually all transformers where ever possible will be converted into single pole transformer with help from BESCOM officials."
