Going a step ahead, IDF and the college students, as a part of the college’s cultural festival Parichay 2012, took part in Mission W2K (Waste to Knowledge) in order to provide quality education among the underprivileged students. The tag line of the festival itself was “What is Old for U is Gold for Us”
So with the mission to provide quality education to slum and poor kids, the team started an activity named "Chillar party", under which they collected old newspapers, books, clothes and toys from about 500 homes in Juhu and Goregaon. By the end of the activity, the students had collected 750 Kgs of Newspaper, more than 1,000kgs of clothes, more than 1,000 books, three gunny bags full of toys and Some amount of stationary.
Gaurav Deora, the chairperson of the festival says, “It was an amazing experience, and on behalf of my team, I would like to thank all the donors. Although we had fun, the task was not easy. Some people thought that we are frauds and refused to entertain us! But there were some who genuinely wanted to help too. One of the servants from a posh Juhu colony came ahead to contribute to the cause.”
He adds, “The things collected were sent to Malvani, Malad, for the kids as well as some of it was given in our college watchmen, liftmen, canteen workers and the cleaners. the joy on their faces zeroed our tiredness and made us feel great. We know will be conducting a street play on February 18 in Malwani as a part of the ‘Clean India’ mission taken up by IDF, and would promote education and hygiene.”
